博士 === 大葉大學 === 管理學院博士班 === 105 === This study explored marathon runner's participation motive by self determination theory. Through snowball sampling, it selected 10 marathon runner's and the observation lasted for 6 years, including interview and writing of memorandum. Finally, it conducted data analysis by NVivo. According to research findings, there are 19 items of themes of runner's participation motive. It demonstrates that motive of self determination theory is complicated and diverse and it is influenced by both internal and external factors. Runner's only concern about the pleasant experience in the participation instead of the prizes. They pay attention to life quality with healthy body. In addition, by marathon, they can realize and identify with themselves, enhance confidence and upgrade psychological health and life quality. The findings also show that participation motive is not influenced by gender. Key Words：Self Determination Theory、Marathon Runner's、Participation Mo-tivation、Leisure Activity
