In this way, energy recovery and reuse can be achieved. The objective of this research is to investigate the hydraulic circuit design and component selection of a series hydraulic hybrid vehicle. The hydraulic circuit design and component selection are based on the vehicular characteristics and driving schedule. Braking energy recovery efficiency and overall vehicle energy efficiency are used to evaluate the energy recovery performance, and studied for various system designs and component characteristic settings. The analysis results demonstrate a braking energy recovery efficiency of 74% and overall vehicle energy efficiency of 32.8% for the original design. After modifying the component settings to reduce pressure loss, braking energy recovery efficiency increased by 5.2% and overall vehicle energy efficiency by 10%. Moreover, if hydraulic-displacement controlled system is used in place of hydraulic-valve controlled system, the overall vehicle energy efficiency can further improve by 11%.
