However, with the advancement of prosperity in time and the competition by modernised vehicles, pedicab tricycle has been treated as the obstacle for growth, or a symbol of underdevelopment. Therefore, during the urbanisation process, it has been intentionally washed out. Now within the country, there are only a few locations with some favourable pedicab tricycles by tourists, e.g. Cijin (Kaohsiung), Tianwei (Changhua), Lukang (Changhua) etc. Nonetheless, these pedicab tricycles, dubbed as “tourist tricycle”, are facing some vital issues for sustainability, such as regulatory adaptation and compliance, uncleared roles, negative competition, quality of service, and comflicts within communities, etc. Taking Changhua County for example, pedicab tricycles in Tianwei are for tourist self-riding. Their models include: two-wheel, three-wheel, to four-wheel carriage. It further has either manpower or electric power as options for riding the pedicab tricycle. On the other hand, pedicab tricycles in Lukang are mainly based on traditional manpower, including the services for guided tours. The very existence of these pedicab tricycles now is longer served for the transportation purpose but as the result of tourism. Given it would face potential violation of regulations, the further challenge lies in whether the management level is fully aware of the need for upgrade on both software and hardware, as a result of the transformation from transport tool to services product for tourism. This research aimed to discuss the regulatory adaptation and compliance, the overall business environment and its development. By endorsing the benchmarking methodology, this reseach studied EBISUYA rickshaw company’s development from a small headquarter in Arashiyama, Kyoto to a company with ten branches spreading over Japan – a famous case study on service product of tourism. The case study would be providing suggestions for the development of Lukang’s tourist pedicab tricycle; a useful reference as the management strategy for local businesses in this regard; and a referred point for local government to consider providing assistance in the development of tourist pedicab tricycles in Lukang. 何晉瑋 2017 學位論文 ; thesis 66 zh-TW |
