With the ever-changing technology, Google Street View has been widely used by people to understand the environment. Virtual Reality (VR) has been a new technology developed in recent years. This study attempts to explore the difference between virtual reality (VR) and Google Street View in path found. In this study, the students were selected as the experimental subjects. Despite the traditional map, the Google Street View and VR experience were the tools for familiarizing the environment and pathways. The path found experiment was conducted to explore the use of two tools in two places. Through the path found task, whether there was a difference between the Google Street View and Virtual Reality(VR) among the result of path found performance. This study invited 57 sixth graders to conduct pre-test which grouped these students by their spatial ability. And these students were divided into 9 groups. There were one group of high spatial capability students using Google Street View, another group using VR and the other group using traditional 2D maps. There were one group of mid-space capability students using Google Street View, another group using VR and the other group using traditional 2D maps. And there were one group of low-space capability students using Google Street View, another group using and the other group using traditional 2D maps. Each group was carried out outdoor space routing separately. In the same route, whether there was a difference among these nine groups in the path found time, distance, and the usage time. In this experiment, the path found time, distance and the usage time were all measured and analyzed. According to the results of this study, there were some conclusions as followed:(1) Panorama tool provided a better spatial information for the path founders who had the better performance in path found. (2) Both Google Street View and VR experience provided easy-to-use spatial information for path founders. They shortened the difference in spatial capabilities, and made the same performance of each path founder. (3) VR experience was more likely to be used by path founders than Google Street View. Path founders could constitute a complete path knowledge in a short time. And it could lead the path founders to the destination directly. LIOU, JEIH-JANG 廖志傑 2017 學位論文 ; thesis 124 zh-TW
