Keeping this unhealthy lifestyle will have negative impact on their health. As children grow, factors which affect obesity may be varied, such as age, elevated self-consciousness. There are few researches investigate the factors affecting weight status among primary and middle school students in Taiwan. In this study, data from ‘Nutrition And Health Survey In Taiwan 2010-2012, NAHSIT’ were used to investigate factors which affect children’s breakfast consumption and sugar sweetened beverage consumption and screen time on weight status The results showed that the prevalence of overweight or obesity among primary and middle school students was 28.83%, everyday breakfast consumption rate was 76.54%, sugar sweetened beverage consumption frequency was 0.62 ± 0.01/day and screen time was 2.76 ± 0.04 hours/day. Senior high school students had lowest everyday breakfast consumption rate, and highest daily sugar sweetened beverage consumption and screen time compared to elementary and junior high school students. Students of higher parental education level and higher family income had better eating behaviors and lower daily screen time. Parental education level, family income, daily screen time and parental weight status were independent risk factors of overweight and obesity among primary and middle school students. After adjusted by age, gender, socioeconomic status factors, breakfast frequency, sugar sweetened beverage consumption frequency, calorie intake and physical activities, only parental weight status was kept as a risk factor of overweight and obesity. Changes of the prevalence of overweight or obesity among grades were parallel to the changes of no daily breakfast consumption, calorie contributions from sugar sweetened beverage intake, and daily screen time. In conclusion, the prevalence of overweight or obesity among primary and middle school students were high in Taiwan. Parental weight status was important risk factors for obesity. Daily sugar sweetened beverage consumption and daily screen time were increasing by age. They were also important risk factors for overweight or obesity among primary and middle school students in Taiwan.
