Description
Summary:碩士 === 輔仁大學 === 護理學系碩士班 === 105 === The purpose of this study was to investigate the relation among nurses’occupational burnout, caring behaviors and quality of care. A cross-sectional survey using self-administrated questionnaires on 140 patients and 70 nurses recruited from a regional teaching hospital in northern Taiwan was conducted. The results were as followings: 1.Personal burnout (M=66.07) was at the highest score of nurses’ occupational burnout, followed by the work-related burnout (M=60.57), client-related burnout (M=47.44) and over-commitment to work (M=47.27). 2. Knowing the patient (M=70.24) was at the highest score of nurses’ self-perception of caring behaviors, followed by the helping the patient through the illness trajectory (M=68.13) and patient advocacy (M=60.16). 3. Knowing the patient (M=76.42) was at the highest score of patients’ perception of caring behaviors, followed by the helping the patient through the illness trajectory (M=73.87) and patient advocacy (M=69.16). 4. Competence (M=3.56) was at the highest score of patient’ perception of quality of care, followed by the attitude (M=3.50) and needs satisfaction (M=3.42). 5.Nurses with higher occupation burnout reported lower scores on helping the patient through the illness trajectory (r=-.25, p<.05) and overall caring behaviors (r=-.26, p<.05). Nurses with higher client-related burnout reported lower scores on knowing the patient (r=-.25, p<.05). 6.Nurses’ self-perception of caring behaviors was significantly lower than patients’ perception of caring behaviors (p<.05) . 7.Patients with higher perception of caring behaviors reported higher scores on quality of care(p<.01). This paper recommends that nursing administrators should be devoted to retaining senior staff nurses, improving nurse-to-patient ratio, and simplifying work tasks to increase the interaction between nurses and patients, reduce over-time work, improve occupational burnout of nurses, facilitate caring behaviros, and to promote quality of care.
