Description
Summary:碩士 === 弘光科技大學 === 護理研究所 === 105 === Stroke took the fourth place in the ten leading causes of death in Taiwan. The patient would suf-fered from the acute symptoms and long term residual sequelaes. The impaction of stroke would not only affect the patient himself, but also their families. The aim of this study was to understand the effect of the peer support groups on the impaction of stroke. In this study, we used pretest-posttest quasi-experimental study design. The object of study were the subacute stroke patients in rehabilitation ward from two regional hospital in central Taiwan. Hospital A, as the experimental group, patients received general rehabilitation care and also join the peer support group which concentrating on health education program in the form of curriculum and sharing. The peer support group was held once a week, 4 weeks a cycle, and each single program took 45-60 minutes. Hospital B, as the control group, received general rehabilitation care only. We used the Mandarin Version Stroke Impact Scale (M-SIS) as tool. The experimental group finished the test before and after joint the peer support group program. The control group finished the test in the first week of inpatient rehabilitation, and took test again the fourth week of inpatient rehabilita-tion. The results of test were analyzed by SPSS software version 19.0, including descriptive statis-tics, two-tailed chi-square test, two-tailed independent sample t test, Pair t test and generalized es-timation equation. Improvements were found in all 8 aspects of M-SIS during inpatient rehabilitation programs in both control and experimental group. In experimental group after, 4 weeks of peer support group and general rehabilitation care, improvements in muscle strength, memory, emotional, ADL, mobility, hand function and social participation showed significant difference. However, in control group, after 4 weeks of general rehabilitation care, improvements in muscle strength, ADL, mobility, hand function and social participation also showed significant difference. After comparing these two groups, statistically significant difference was found in progress rate of muscle strength, ADL, mo-bility and hand function. Progress rate of patients in experimental group was better than in control group. According to the result, the intervention of peer control group maybe key factor of turning re-sistance to thrust of rehabilitation, especially in aspects of muscle strength, ADL, mobility and hand functions. We suggest adding peer support group to our current post-acute care programs, in order to diminishing the impaction of stroke
