The mechanical properties of the Cu-Zr-Al BMG alloy are tested by using a Universal Testing Machine and a split Hopkinson bar under the strain rate of 10-3 s-1to 4×103 s-1. Furthermore, the crystal structure, glass forming ability and thermal property are studied by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The experimental results indicated that the flow stress and strain rate sensitivity for the different elements addition of Cu-based BMG alloys vary clearly with the strain and strain rate. As the strain rate increases, the plastic flow stress and strain rate sensitivity increase. When the Y element content increases to 3 at.% and Nd element content increases to 1 at.%, it can be observed that not only the glass forming ability, but also the mechanical strength and plasticity of these bulk metallic alloys are improved.
