The subjects in this study are first-time mothers with children from 0 – 3years age in a certain community in Kaohsiung City. A total of 218 valid questionnaires were obtained. Research tools include structured questionnaires covering Personal Basic Information, Novice Mother Parent Scale ,Spouse Support Satisfaction Scale, and Novice Mother Parenting Effectiveness scale The obtained information was analyzed through descriptive statistics, t-test, anova, and canonical analysis. The conclusions are summarized as follows: 1. First-time mothers perceived a mid-high level of overall spousal support, their own parenting effectiveness, and parenting stress. 2. All dimensions of spousal support shows a significant correlation with the life adjustment stress and social interaction stress of first-time mothers. 3. The parenting confidence of first-time mothers shows a significantly negative correlation with all dimensions of parenting stress. Parenting ability shows a significantly negative correlation with parent-child interaction, life adjustment, and social interaction. 4. Spousal support and parenting effectiveness are significant predictors of the parenting stress that first-time mothers feel. 5. All dimensions of parenting stress are significant correlation of first-time mothers’ parenting confidence. 6. The spousal instrumental support that first-time mothers receive is a significant predictor of parent-child interaction stress, and spousal emotional support is a significant correlation of social interaction stress.
