In East Asian countries , especially in Taiwan and South Korea, there are abundant religious culture, and new religious phenomena emerge significantly. The researcher considered that “New Religion” or “New Religious Movement” meant the discrimination from established traditional religions. In particular, there were more significant religious thoughts developing after World War II (after 1945). In the societies of each nation, New Religion, besides established religions, has become progressively important, playing the role of reducing the hardship and suffering of people. Therefore, by observing the uninterrupted religious emergence and development, we are able to reveal the new religious and cultural phenomenon. This research mainly utilizes multiple research methods and various sources, including literature references, religious texts, curricula for religious courses, interview survey, and field observation records which the author participated in. This study is divided into three primary parts based on the comparative research between I-Kuan Tao and Daesun Jinrihoe. Firstly, the study begins with uncomplicated observation and understanding of historical development of new religions in Taiwan and Korea. The majority of religious cultures in Taiwan derived from China; hence, many religious cultural elements had close relationship with folk religion in China. Korean religious culture had an infinite alteration during the time of Korea as a colony of Japan. Therefore, this study would require understanding of the new religious histories in these two countries. Secondly, this study observes I-Kuan Tao and Daesun Jinrihoe separately in Chapter 3 and 4, such as the beginning of historical development, religious leaders, primary religious doctrines, the situation of religious practical activities, and so on. This research mainly observes religious practices taking Baoguang Chongzheng Branch of Baoguang division as an example within diverse divisions of I-Kuan Tao and using Yeoju Temple as an example of Daesoon Jinrihoe. Thirdly, Chapter 4 has observed the common and different points via the comparison between these two new religions. It mainly compares their religious doctrines, religious organizational structures, religious educational systems, the methods of religious cultivation and social charities, and so on. By observing the situation of new religions in Taiwan and Korea and comparing the common and different points between these two countries, this research can reveal the new religious cultural characteristics in these two countries. Moreover, this research also presents the national characteristics of religious cultures and observes the process of new religious development. 林敬智 學位論文 ; thesis 147 zh-TW
