| Summary: | 博士 === 國立中興大學 === 中國文學系所 === 105 === Lu Bi-cheng was a model of the well-educated female during the period of late Qing to early Republic China. Because of receiving eastern and western culture , she was both conservative and also modern .On the on hand she liked the western life style , but on the other hand , she persisted in writing in classical Chinese . Lin Hsien-tang was “the father of Taiwan assembly” during the Japanese colonial period . He not only received sinological education but also learned from the western world positively. He was a leader with sinology and world view .
The thesis is trying to discuss their travel notes deeply with textual analysis , explain their inner ideological implications , the connections with social environment , and discursive formation , compare the difference of the text from the perspectives of the writer’s gender , background , thoughts , and find the connection between text and society and the relationship between China and Taiwan .
At first , the thsis is trying to analyze the historical background , the writers’ life and personalities , and literary perspectives.The above-mentioned factors influenced their writing of the travel notes . Then , through comparing their travel motivation , schedule , transportation , food , lodging , language of communication , and interpersonal relationship , it was found that the writer’s personality and financial situation were the major factors which influenced their journey.Finally , through analyzing the inner ideological implications deeply and the description of their writing about these countries and cities , we could realize the differences of the writers’ inner values and growing background .
Lu Bi-cheng was from China , and her feelings about China was complex . Although she worried about the mess of politics in China , she chose to run away . Lin Hsien-tang was from Taiwan , and his writing was full with political thinking and concern for people in Taiwan and China . The core value of the travel notes was the spirit of chinese civilization which seeked for “Tao” . From the perspective of Chinese traditional culture , both “Ou Mei manyoulu” and “Huan Qin youji” were the travel literature.
