With the improvement of computer technology, applications of Computer-Aid-Engineering have been used widely. Therefore, the static and dynamic characteristics of the machine tool before it manufactured can be predicted by using the computer simulation technology. Spindle, one of the key components of machine tool, has very strong effect on the processing quality. Therefore, to estimate the static and dynamic characteristics of spindle by digital modeling for machine tool is very important. Parameters which will influence the spindle performance include the stiffness and damping of the bearing, the joint of tool-holder, and between the parts. In this paper, we used high-speed milling spindle as a platform to construct the finite element model and verified by modal testing to establish a reliable digital spindle model.
