The Nationalist Government did not have time to deal with the Macao issue when Sino-Japan War broke out. At this time, the Portuguese Government declared its “neutral” status for its own benefit. The Portuguese Government was afraid that China or Japan would take this opportunity to occupy Macao during the war, therefore it granted the Governor of Portugal’s power and made Macao protected by Portuguese laws. The age of Portuguese Macau faced the forces of both China and Japan. On the hand, the age of Portuguese Macau gradually inclined to Japan in order to seek seif-protection that caused parties to dissatisfaction and suspicion. On the other hand, because of fearing the action trigger Chinese and the Allies, the Age of Portuguese Macau mutually showed its position between China and Japan. Later in the War, Japan retreated because of the Allied. The age of Portuguese Macau inclined to China because it was afraid that the Nationalist Government would recover the domination of Macao. In order to protected itself, it cooperated with the Chinese Government to promulgate an order for the arrest of traitors who hided in Macao and extradited them back to China for public trial. Responsing to the changes of current situation, the Portuguese government adopted different policies to resolved crisis.
