We derive the results proposed by Unanyan et al. In the adiabatic condition, the populations are transferred through dark state only. However, if the adiabatic condition is not satisfied, the non-dark states will appear, and the process will be affected by the Rabi oscillation phenomenon and spontaneous decay effect. We also control the time and shape of the pulses to see how they change the populations. Furthermore, we discuss the optical density effect in the tripod stimulated Raman adiabatic passage medium.
