Being the provincial governor of Shaanxi and Gansu (1862-1880) was the most successful and glorious period of his life. During his term as a provincial governor, he not only moved from Southeast to northwest of China but also made great achievements, including suppressing Taiping Rebellion and Dungan Revolt. In addition to performing meritorious deeds, Zuo Zongtang established Foochow arsenal(福州船政局), Lanzhou Manufacturing Bureau(蘭州製造局) and Lanzhou Weibei Bureau(蘭州織呢局) in order to adjust to the social trend. It not only realized his dream but also gave him logistic support and assistance during the wars. These businesses required overseas technology and equipment and therefore Zuo had chances to contact with foreigners. He also introduced new technology and equipment from France and Germany. Furthermore, since Russian occupied Northwest of China and expanded their empire in Xinjiang, it was inevitable that Zuo had to contact with Russian as long as he planned to reconquer Xinjiang. This article will primarily focus on the relationship between Zuo Zongtang, French, German and Russian as well as analyze the reasons why Zuo kept in touch with them. Meanwhile, it will analyze how French, German and Russian had great influences on Zuo. Mei -Fang Su 蘇梅芳 2017 學位論文 ; thesis 137 zh-TW |
