Qualitative research method was utilized to interview the 12 objects in this study including 6 South Vietnamese and 6 North Vietnamese. The collected data was complied, analyzed, induced, and interpreted to investigate the changes of the practice of child education of South and North Vietnamese mothers in Taiwan. The perspectives of this study included educational experience of the Vietnamese family of origin and the practice of child upbringing in Taiwan. The findings are as follows: 1. In terms of education types from the family of origin, North Vietnamese families are prone to “stern father and kind mother”, while South Vietnamese families are prone to “stern father and kind mother”, “kind father and kind mother”, and “kind father and stern mother”. 2. In terms of practice of upbringing in Taiwan, the educational approaches North Vietnamese mothers adopted included “authoritarian” and “authoritative”, while South Vietnamese mothers adopted “authoritative” and “indulgent”. With the changes of the society, both South and North Vietnamese mothers emphasized on the development of children’s interests as far as academic expectations. One special finding is that both South and North Vietnamese mothers focused on the children’s greeting manners. However, North Vietnamese mothers valued more on morality toward the elders, which is a presentation of “respectful love”. Furthermore, both South and North Vietnamese new immigrant mothers had close relationship with their children. The difference is that South Vietnamese mothers “conceded” to their children or “begged for love” from their children. LIM, KHAY-THIONG 林開忠 2017 學位論文 ; thesis 103 zh-TW
