Protein hydrolysates are one of plant biostimulants. Protein hydrolysates are mainly produced by enzymatic or chemical hydrolysis of proteins from animal- or plant-derived raw materials. In this study, soybean protein hydrolysate (SPH) produced by fermentation using proteolytic bacterial strain, Bacillus sp. was used to analyze growth response in Arabidopsis thaliana and Danio rerio. Our results showed that the protease from Bacillus sp. exhibited the highest enzymatic activity (8.3 unit/mL) at pH 9.0, and its protease activity was inhibited by adding phenylmethylsulfonyl fluoride. Moreover, this SPH exhibited antioxidant activity and anti-fungal growth activity. Application of SPH on A. thaliana in the vegetative phase promoted root hair growth, increased chlorophyll content, increased fresh weight, and antioxidant activity. In the reproductive stage, SPH application promoted inflorescence formation in A. thaliana. Exogenous application of SPH to D. rerio revealed non-toxic to this organism; this application exhibited no growth promotion effect on D. rerio. However, the SPH application increased the biosynthesis of T cells and immune cells in D. rerio. These results suggested that SPH generated by Bacillus sp. fermentation possesses multiple bioactivities in both A. thaliana and D. rerio including antioxidant, anti-fungal, growth promotion, and immunostimulant. Our results suggest that SPH has a great potential for agriculture application. 莊慧文 學位論文 ; thesis 0 zh-TW
