lives more convenient and lets us collection, process and use personal data easier.
However, does that mean personal privacy will disappear accompany the networking
bit by bit in the era of rapid flow of information?Google is one of the most widely
used search engine, using Google's services may also put the privacy and interests of
personal data in danger, it is worthy of reflection privacy issue. Therefore, the study
wants to take the privacy issues of Google Toolbar for example to analyze the degree
of attention and ignorance of Internet users.
This study uses multiple methods including literature analysis, focus group and
analytic hierarchy process. First, researcher sorts out six Google Toolbar privacy
issues through collecting and analyzing literatures, and then, uses focus group and
hierarchical analysis software Expert Choice 11.5 to know the degree of attention and
ignorance of the issues of Google Toolbar of Internet users. The last, holding focus
group discussions to interpret, correction and makes a consensus on the results of the
analysis. The focus group was composed of 12 undergraduates who had used Google
Toolbar in this study. Opinion collection, hierarchical analysis and focus interviews
were completed between October and November 2016.
This study concludes with the following conclusions: 1. Google Toolbar involves
six privacy issues; 2. Hierarchical analysis can be used to analyze the degree of
importance of privacy issues, among them, " store search history in my computer" is
the most important, weight accounted for 23.3%; 3. Hierarchical analysis can be used
to analyze the degree of ignorance of privacy issues, among them, "send usage
statistics to Google" is the most neglected, weight accounted for 24.9%; 4. The use of
focus interviews can correct the results of hierarchical analysis to make the results
more complete; 5. Participation by focus group members can lead to consensus and
develop a self-checklist of Google Toolbar privacy issues. Based on the research
conclusion, some suggestions are put forward for reference.
