In terms of “job characteristics”, “emotional labor”, and “organizational commitment”, the research investigates and analyzes the current perception as well as relevant situations of nursing staff working in Kaohsiung City’s hospitals. Research subjects are nursing personnel working in the hospitals of Kaohsiung City who serve as the population with 400 people sampled using stratified sampling for investigation with anonymous questionnaires. The number of valid questionnaires recovered is 400, with effective responsive rate at 100%. SPSS 18.0 for Windows (Chinese version) is used to conduct statistical analyses such as descriptive statistics, independent-sample t test, one-way analysis of variance, Pearson product-moment correlation analysis, and stepwise multiple regression analysis. Conclusions yielded are as follows: I. Nursing staff exhibit an above average degree of “job characteristics”. Of those characteristics, perception of “variety” is higher, followed by autonomy, feedback. II. Nursing staff exhibit above average degree of “emotional labor”, with higher perception of “appropriate expression”, followed by suppression of conflicting emotions, pretending of external emotions. III. Nursing staff exhibit above average degree of “organizational commitment”, with higher perception of “effort commitment”, followed by value commitment, retention commitment. IV. The group ages “25 and below” exhibit significantly greater perception in terms of overall job characteristics, variety, feedback, and overall emotional labor compared to the group ages “31~40”. V. The group with marital status as “unmarried” exhibit significantly greater perception in terms of overall job characteristics, variety, autonomy, feedback than those who are “married”. VI. The group with years of service at “half to one year” exhibit significantly greater perception in terms of overall job characteristics, variety, feedback then the “6 to 10 years” group. VII. Those working in “internal medicine” and “external medicine” exhibit significantly greater perception in terms of variety, appropriate expression than those in the “other” group. VIII. There is positive correlation between “job characteristics”, “emotional labor”, and “organizational commitment”. In terms of job characteristics, the “feedback” aspect can effectively predict nursing staff members’ organizational commitment toward their institutions.
