In order to fulfill their missions without creating any additional problems, in addition to basic job proficiencies, entry level officers must also be stress-resistant as well as capable of controlling their emotions when dealing with the public. Only then can they achieve upper level performance as well as meet the people’s daily requirements. The Chief’s leadership ability is also a key factor to successful management of the organization. This is a requirement that current police organizations should have. The research aims to understand the relevance between perceived Chief leadership styles, work stress and work performance of entry level officers serving at Kaohsiung City’s police substations. The research utilizes questionnaires to conduct investigation, with research subjects being entry level police officers from Kaohsiung City’s various police substations. Using sampling, a total of 382 questionnaires were sent out, with 355 valid samples recovered, yielding up to 92.9% in sample availability. Statistical methods such as ANOVA and regression analysis were conducted on recovered data, yielding the relationship between Chief leadership style, work stress and work performance. According to recovered statistics, Chief leadership style strategy is of slightly high degree, with perception of “guidance type” dimension at highest. This indicates that entry level police officers need Chiefs capable of defining clear work directions, work content, work techniques as well as methods, stipulations and system for them to follow. Substation officers’ work stress is of medium to slightly high degree, with highest score in “family and work interaction”. This indicates that unstructured work hours, the need to cease holidays by turns due to duty, being unable to successfully plan for interaction with family members and thus affecting quality of life is currently the biggest source of stress for entry level officers. Substation officer work performance is of medium to slightly high, with “work efficiency” at highest score, indicating that they meet the requirements of the public. Being able to quickly and efficiently achieve progress and results is a major requirement for current police work. The research conducted induction of perceived Chief leadership style, work stress and work performance of entry level substation police officers which support significant relevance between the three.
