For Interior design to meet the needs of users and to maximize environmental conditions, one would have to harmonize elements such as design planning, construction, materials, comfort and health of inhabitants. Among these, indoor environment temperature and humidity are two key factors affecting the comfort of the residence. It is necessary to utilize equipment or materials with humidity conditioning functions to decorate the interior so that a desired degree of relative comfort may be achieved regarding temperature and humidity. In light of this, this thesis is focused on studying available ready-made wood materials used for interior wall paneling, testing and evaluating the performances such as absorption, dehumidification and heat of the said materials. This research also seeks to understand wooden interior materials’ effect on and attenuation of indoor temperature and humidity of the environment. The goal is to apply such findings on optimizing interior design. Samples of this study are divided into three categories from seven kinds of building materials. They are classified as follows (1) wood-based: three kinds (2) artificial panel: two kinds (3) inorganic: two kinds Firstly, characteristics of temperature and humidity of each sample was evaluated. Secondly, trend models of temperature and humidity of the samples were established. Finally, apply the results to practical cases. Far infrared ray imaging technology was employed to record minute changes in room temperatures and humidity. By using wooden building materials in the interior design while optimizing geometric structures and sizes of sun-illuminated area, indoor environment temperature and humidity were significantly enhanced. It is the goal of this study that findings from our research may provide interior designers with better interior design requirements and the coping strategies by understanding different features of the wood building materials so as to achieve the optimal indoor environment.
