The study intends to understand the effect of astaxanthin supplement to maximum VO2max, exhaustion time, VE, failure heart rate and LA after exercising of sport performance, affection to their improvement or promotion. The double-blind experiment design is adopted by the study. 14 healthy males aged 20-40 were the subjects and dividend into astaxanthin and control groups randomly. They ate astaxanthin and placebo respectively for five weeks and the post-test were taken afterward. Next, take rest five weeks for metabolism and depletion, followed by pre-test in phase II and post-test after taking supplement for five weeks based on cross design. The statistical methods include descriptive statistic, two-way ANOVA, dependent samples and dependent sample t-test. The study found, there was no significant difference (p>.05) between astaxanthin and control groups in term of VO2max, exhaustion time, VE, failure heart rate. Meanwhile, the LA change immediately after the exercise was significant (p = 0.02, p<.05) between astaxanthin and control groups. The research results show the supplement of astaxanthin may greatly improve the duration of LA after exercise, but it cannot improve the performance of VO2max, exhaustion time, VE, failure heart rate.
