Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺北護理健康大學 === 語言治療與聽力研究所 === 105 === Due to hearing loss, hearing-impaired preschoolers may be challenged acquiring spoken languages. They are clearly at risk for language delay. The need for early sign language intervention is crucial because early intervention may trigger young children’s language development in their critical period of language acquisition. Early lexical development is important, which influences the later sentential development. Currently, the standardized measures of preschoolers’ Taiwan Sign Language (TSL) can not be found. Therefore, it is difficult to monitor the progress of language development. In response to this need, the aim of this thesis is to develop TSL lexical comprehension and production assessment tools and procedures for signing preschoolers in Taiwan. Now very little is known about early TSL development, this study developes TSL lexicon assessment based on the framework of other signed language assessment tools and selectes lexical items from preschooler’s vocabulary assessment tools in Taiwan. To adequately assess preschoolers’ TSL lexicon ability, the TSL Expressive Signs Checklist and Picture Naming Game (PiNG) are provided in this thesis. The TSL Expressive Signs Checklist is a parent report with a checklist in order to assess the signing toddlers younger than 3. It is a total list of 685 sign glosses organized into 22 semantic categories. PiNG is a direct test, measuring TSL lexical comprehension and production. Using the technique of parent report and a direct test to assess lexical development in signing preschoolers can obtain reliable data. The current development of assessment tools and procedures contributed to the theoretical issues in preschoolers’ sign vocabulary development.
