Along with time vicissitude, people care about the food safety, brand and service at first instead of the price when they purchase merchandise; therefore, the retail enterprises take the relevant business strategies. In recent years, there are a lot of changes of market share of the retail market in Taiwan. The growth of market share of convenience stores slowed down, and that of hypermarkets declined. On the other hand, the market share of supermarket has increased significantly. From the business model point of view, however, it is found the differences between the different retail formats are gradually unclear. Based on the literature research, this study analyzes the highly competitive retail industry in Taiwan according to the management style, market positioning and competitive advantage of different industries. Afterwards, the case study explores the current development of the leader supermarket (PX Mart) to see how it challenges the present retail market in Taiwan. After the maturity and low-profitability of the retail industry in Taiwan, PX Mart faces the dilemma of how to struggle between convenience stores and hyper-supermarkets, and needs more prudent market strategy and precise brand positioning. Furthermore, the relevant retail theory and marketing theory is used to analyze the expansion factors of PX Mart on different steps.
