Summary:碩士 === 國立臺南大學 === 音樂學系碩士班 === 105 === Paul Hindemith is one of the most representative composers in the twenty century in Germany. He is also a theorist, viola performer and conductor. Hindemith loves to use extremely discordant intervals and melodies, he writes pieces for nearly all instruments.《Sonata for Bass Tuba and Piano》is written by Hindemith in 1955, and this is also the last instrumental work that he wrote. This study aims to analyze the structure and style of this sonata, and gives performance interpretation recommendations for other educators and students according to the result of analysis and the experience of the researcher. This thesis includes six chapter, chapter one is the introduction, describing the scope and direction of the research. Chapter two presents Hindemith’s life background and overview of his music style. Chapter three provides the history of the development of the tuba, introducing tubas in different keys and their usages in practice. Chapter four analyses this sonata, discussing the structure, melody, rhythm, and texture, and chapter five gives the recommendations of performance interpretations with references the author’s experience and results of the analysis. Chapter six summarizes this thesis.
