A questionnaire survey was conducted among the senior volunteers at a community institute in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, in which 472 valid samples in total were collected. The research instruments included: “scale of motivation for service participation”, “scale of physical and mental health”, “scale of life satisfaction”, and “personal profile.” This study employed descriptive statistics, one-way analysis of variance, Pearson product-moment correlation, and multiple stepwise regression analysis to conduct the statistical tests, with the main research findings shown as follows: 1. For senior volunteers who attained the overall level of above average for service participation motivation, the average score of “self-affirmation” was the highest among all dimensions. 2. For senior volunteers who attained the overall level of above average for physical and mental health, the average score of “physical health” was the highest among all dimensions. 3. For senior volunteers who attained the overall level of above average for life satisfaction, the average score of “emotional state” was the highest among all dimensions. 4. Senior volunteers’ overall motivation for service participation differed significantly because of their gender, different years of service, and different volunteer experiences. 5. Senior volunteers’ physical and mental health differed significantly because of their gender, different years of service, and different volunteer experiences. 6. Senior volunteers’ life satisfaction differed significantly because of their gender, different years of service, and different volunteer experiences. 7. The positive correlation for the overall motivation for service participation, overall life satisfaction was significantly low-moderate; the positive correlation for the overall physical and mental health, overall life satisfaction was significantly moderate. 8. Among the main predictor variables, “physical health” attained the highest score for the “self-concept” and “overall life satisfaction” dimensions; “mental health” attained the highest score for the “daily activity”, “social interaction”, and “emotional state” dimensions. According to an analysis of the aforementioned findings, the results indicated that the following hypothesis was supported: senior volunteers’ life satisfaction can be significantly predicted from their motivation for service participation and their physical and mental health. Finally, based on the research results, we offered concrete suggestions for senior volunteers, social institutions, and future research, respectively. YE,CHIEN-CHI 葉千綺 2017 學位論文 ; thesis 117 zh-TW
