| Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺灣海洋大學 === 航運管理學系 === 105 === This research aims to review the development of emerging global epidemic of respiratory infectious diseases in recent years, including seasonal flu, severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS, caused by the novel coronavirus), and to investigate their possible impacts to the rapid developing cruise tourism industry in the Far East Asia. The overall impact of these three diseases is measured by the diseases’ spreading area, spreading speed, fatality rate, the after-recovery syndrome as well as the disease direct/indirect transmission frequency.
Respondents are mainly immigration officers, quarantine officers and cruise shipping shipowners and shipping agencies. Among the three diseases we surveyed, SARS is perceived to have the largest impact on cruise ship development due to its high fatality rate.
This report has employed the AHP technique to investigate the experts’ perception on the degree of importance of the abovementioned six measurement sub-criteria and the extent of consequences of the abovementioned respiratory diseases after their possible outbreak. The risk matrix is used to evaluate and analyze the critical sub-criteria and aim to understand the possible impact of these three types of respiratory disease on the cruise industry. Possible practices for cruise shipping companies to handle different risk criteria and sub-criteria are discussed.
