碩士 === 國立臺北教育大學 === 音樂學系碩士班 === 105 === Maurice Ravel was a very representative composer of Impressionism in French. His style of piano works was unique, because of the background in society and his learning experience. Ravel was inspired by poems Les Fantaisis de Gaspard de la Nuit à la manière de Rembrandt et de Callot that was written by 19th century poet of Romanticism Aloysius Bertrand to compose “Gaspard de la Nuit”. There are three characteristic pieces in “Gaspard de la Nuit”, including ‘Ondine’, ‘Le Gibet’ and ‘Scarbo’. This thesis contains five chapters. The first chapter explains the author’s intent and motivation in studying “Gaspard de la Nuit”, as well as the scope of this thesis and the methodology used. The second chapter states Ravel’s biography, his style and characteristic of piano music, and understand the creation background of “Gaspard de la Nuit”. The third chapter is an analysis of “Gaspard de la Nuit” through melodies, varied harmonies and the structures aspects. The fourth chapter describes the possible performances interpretations of“Gaspard de la Nuit”, including author’s personal experiences and practice process. And the fifth chapter concludes author’s review about Ravel’s “Gaspard de la Nuit” for this thesis.
