The data collected with a questionnaire survey adapted by the researcher from 90 special education teachers was analyzed in descriptive statistics. The research findings are as the following: 1. The entire degree of teaching problems in remote area elementary schools in Taitung county was classified as low-intermediate. “Working burden” was the most problem followed by “system support”, “class management”, “teaching and assessment”, and “professional competence”. 2. In terms of professional competence, the top 3 reasons for problems were that “unable to strengthen own competence for time deficiency”, “unable to solve teaching problems for capacities deficiency”, and “unable to apply knowledge learned from conference to teaching”. 3. For class management problem, “low teaching participation and cooperation of parents”, “distraction of students in learning”, and “impossibility of looking after learning demands of every student” were the top 3 reasons. 4. Concerning teaching and assessment, the top 3 reasons were that “cooperation of teaching plans and activities”, followed by “impossibility of looking after learning demands of every student” and “requirements of teaching aids for teaching”. 5. In the light of system support, “deficiency of special education funds to offer whole year expense”, “problem of offering integration service with team work”, and “deficiency of professional classrooms for teaching demands” were the top 3 reasons for teaching problems. 6.
