After two Olympic Games demonstration tournament and four Olympic official tournaments, won 7 gold, 1 silver and 10 bronze medals, Taekwondo has been one of the key sports to win Olympic gold medals for Taiwan. However, successful national sports development comes from steady school sports development. How to build a persistent training system for athletes under Taiwan’s school system is the important point for the national sports development in schools at all levels. Therefore, what’s the development of taekwondo in secondary school? It’s worth discovering. Moreover, domestic related researches for taekwondo of secondary schools in Taiwan were mostly based on the training, teaching, skills analysis and taekwondo classroom running. There are few thorough and complete literature researches for the development of taekwondo’s history. Therefore, historical method and interview survey were applied for this study to investigate the development of taekwondo in the secondary schools. This study is expected to become an important reference for the historical development of taekwondo in Taiwan and help schools in all levels to promote the development of taekwondo. According to the purpose of the study, the results are as follows: 1. The well drafted policy, promotion from schools and taekwondo classrooms and excellent performances in the international tournaments are important factors to drive the development of taekwondo in secondary schools of Taiwan. 2. Hard work from coaches, promotion and support from principals and efforts from the students are indispensable factors to make those outstanding schools perform marvelously. Especially at the early stage that resources are deficient, coaches pay tireless efforts to the team are the soul of the team and the support from the principals is the important promoter to help the team succeed. 3. About the development of taekwondo domestic competition in secondary schools of Taiwan, the development in northern part is steadier and the performances are more outstanding because early members and association locations are mostly in Taipei and New Taipei City. Besides, there are more people participating in taekwondo in the north. 4. Taekwondo of the secondary schools in the international competitions, women’ ranked No. 2 in the world games which performs more excellent.
