It is a technical specification published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and specifies requirements for current unified automotive quality systems in the global automotive industry. The IATF 16949:2016 quality management system is an ISO technical specification and its first version was jointly completed by the International Automotive Task Force (IATF) and ISO/TC 176 in 1999. It is mainly jointly developed and compiled by members of the IATF. What is IATF? IATF is a special group that consists of automotive manufacturers and trade associations that they represent respectively and aims at providing better quality products to automotive customers worldwide. This paper mainly investigates the benefits and impact of introducing the IATF 16949:2016 quality management system in manufacturing processes by Taiwan’s automotive parts manufacturing sector. When introducing the IATF 16949:2016 quality management system, companies have to make sure that their employees properly understand its concept and related education and training so that all the employees across the companies properly adhere to and follow related specifications for production operations to achieve compliance with provision specifications and quality requirements and thus companies are able to fulfill their commitments to customers and products. Introduction of the IATF 16949:2016 quality management system by companies can help improve manufacturing processes and product quality while reducing occurrence of anomalies and increasing production efficiency. To achieve this, training following the audit of the system introduction by companies is particularly important. The main conclusion from the results of this study is that introduction of IATF 16949:2016 is of significant help for manufacturing processes. It not only improves product quality, but also benefits product stability and reliability a lot. For example, people, machines, materials and methods etc. can all be controlled and standardized through provisions and documentation. In this way, it is possible to assure quality in the premise of speed and precision throughout the process of manufacturing. Sources of data for this study include this researcher’s experience as an intern in a Taiwanese automotive parts manufacturing company, results of interviews with employees of related functions in the company and reference to provision specifications in IATF 16949:2016 and related literature. The collected data are analyzed and the results are consolidated into the research data in this paper. The content may differ due to this researcher’s and interviewees’ subjectivity and elaborations.
