In order to stay for days in the high attitude, it is crucial to reduce the structural weight as much as possible which maintains the necessary structure strength. Light weight material with high specific strength, such as carbon fiber composite material, high density Styrofoam and aviation plywood, has been extensively used for the wing construction. The streamline fairing has also been used in order to hence the aerodynamics efficiency. In development stage, two wings with different wingspan and construction method are made. The wing with three meters’ wingspan which is made by high density Styrofoam, is designed to continually fly for 24 hours. The second wing with ten meters’ wingspan which is made by carbon fiber composite and aviation plywood, is designed to continually fly for days. Some further works, such as gaining altitude to store energy and more advanced battery, could be done for the endurance of solar airplane.
