The researcher conducted quantitative research on 980 organizations in Taiwan to explore the characteristic of organizational diversity in the care industry and its performance. Research results show that as Taiwan approaches the era of aging, the residential care industry has established nearly a thousand nursing organizations in the past decade, with nursing homes mostly managing on a mid-range scale while elder care and rehabilitation, long-term care and retirement organizations manage on a smaller scale due to the influence of government policies. As for service charges, nursing homes charge more on average when compared to elder care and rehabilitation, long-term care and retirement organizations. Furthermore, when it comes to geographical location, organizations in the north usually charge more than organizations in the south. In regards to financial circumstances, nursing homes, which are primarily medium to large sized, are more likely to make profit and one can also see the diversity in market supply by looking at the different service hours offered by various organizations. Lastly, it comes to institutional legitimacy. Overall, it seems that the various organizations adapt to the law quite well and nursing homes and retirement centers have the highest rate of scoring “A” on organizational assessments. In conclusion, the current residential care industry in Taiwan is mainly influenced by government policies and the market. Thus, a variety of service models were born, giving diversity to the image of the organizations. Although the lack of manpower and financial funding still pose as problems, but with the enactment of the new Long-Term Care Service Act and the collaboration of private organizations, businesses and the government, whether Taiwan can gradually solve the social problems caused by population aging in an era that places heavy emphasis on aging is something to look forward to.
