In 2017, there are about 3 millions of aged people (more than 65 years old), i.e., 8 percent of Taiwan population. It is expected that in 2051, every 1.5 working people will have to support an elder people in Taiwan. Many families have to send elder people to long-term care institutes. Dementia occurs mainly in the elderly. Patients with dementia are prone to get lost because of lack of sense of direction. The caregivers in the long-term care institutes usually have to spend a lot of time to locate dementia patients. In this study, we apply iBeacon indoor positioning technology to track elder people in the long-term care institutes so that caregivers can easily and instantly locate the residents. In the institute, we deploy several iBeacon stations that will receive the beacon signals from the resident’s iBeacon bracelet. The system estimates the distances between the iBeacon bracelet and stations according to the energy level of received beacon signals and calculates the position of the bracelet, thus the resident, by triangulation algorithm. We have performed several experiments. In passive mode, the positioning precision was within 1 meter. However, in active mod, the positioning precision was more than 2 meters. In the scenario of long-term care, we show that iBeacon indoor positioning is better in passive mode than that in active mode. LIN, JENG-WEI 林正偉 2017 學位論文 ; thesis 50 zh-TW
