Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺北科技大學 === 工業設計系創新設計碩士班(碩士在職專班) === 105 === Ready-To-Assemble (RTA) furniture can save manufacturers transportation and assembly costs, as well as consumers can get their furniture with a good price. However, it need to face a new problem: the frustration of users who do not know how to assemble. As the users spatial abilities and understanding vary from person to person, even with the assembly instructions to help, if not clearly convey the information, user will feel confused, and assembly errors may happen. We describe an approach for identifying assembly problems and try to improve the assembly process in this study. First, we collects literature and the furniture information in the market to understand the current situation and difficulties of the RTA furniture. Next, we conduct contextual inquiry and hesitation analysis to identify and the problems in the assembly task. Finally, we apply the theory of spatial compatibility and spatial ability in assembly instruction and assembly guidance design, and verify through conducting contextual inquiry and hesitation analysis again. Our results indicate that contextual inquiry and hesitation analysis can identify RTA furniture assembly problems effectively. We have also found that applying information visualization and reducing visual interference can make assembly instructions be easy to understand and follow. Furthermore, assembly guidance with spatial compatibility design improves assembly efficiency and reduces mental operating time.
