The copolymers contain hydrophobic and hydrophilic repeating units, like a larger molecular weight of the surfactant. The porous microspheres with good morphology in this investigation were obtained by a facile single-step emulsification, by neither use of porogens nor the requirement of templates. The microstructure of the porous microspheres were observed by OM, SEM, and TEM images. The chemical structures of copolymers were characterized by Fourier transformed infrared and carbon-13 nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopies. Due to microspheres have good open pore structure characteristics, porous microspheres demonstrate some features like high specific surface area, and high porosity. Owing to these outstanding properties, the application of porous microsphere is quite extensive, including filtration/separation membranes, new materials for energy storage, antireflection coating, and precursor for porous carbon materials.
