Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺北科技大學 === 經營管理系碩士班 === 105 === Many countries across the world have recognized that the tourism industry has great development potential. Data and surveys show that tourism has the advantages of high economic efficiency, low pollution, and enhanced employment opportunities. In particular, tourism in Taiwan has led to significant direct economic benefits, as well as added value from peripheral benefits, such as the enhancement of Taiwan’s international visibility. However, the increased number of tourists visiting Taiwan has given rise to a number of management problems within international tourist hotels. According to Taiwan’s Tourism Bureau, the number of international tourist hotels increased from 58 in 2004 to 75 in 2015. Because of high competition, managers intend to improve the operational efficiency of the hotels. This study uses Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) and the Rank Minimization Model to measure the managerial performance of 24 international tourist hotels in Taipei and the efficiency variation of 24 hotels from 2012 to 2015. The input variables include salary and related expenses, guest rooms, total area of meal department and operating expenses, while the output variables include room revenue, food & beverages revenue and other revenues. The results reveal that from 2012 to 2015, the number of efficient hotels in Taipei gradually decrease from 58% to 37.5%. In terms of returns to scale analysis, 33% of the hotels should increase their size, while 12% of the hotels need to reduce input to avoid the waste of resources. Among them, 54% of the hotels are constant return to scale, including: Ambassodor Hotel, Caesar Park Hotel Taipei, United Hotel, Hotel Royal-Nikko Taipei, Regent Taipei, Le Méridien Taipei and W Hotels Taipei. In 2015, there are nine efficient hotels with the score 1. By conducting the super efficiency analysis, the nine efficient decision making units come up with a ranking and the best is Regent Taipei (score value: 2.725), second is Le Méridien Taipei (score value: 1.926) and third is W Hotels Taipei (score value: 1.774). The analysis results can help decision makers to improve the operational efficiency and derive some business strategies of the hotels. We expect that this study can provide useful information for future hotel management needs in Taiwan. That may also have potential applications in tourism around the world.
