This research’s significance lies in a series of clear dated and well-preserved glassware in this period has discovered and it can be categorised into “(Chinese) Self-produced Glassware” and “Imported Glassware” by critical anthology and advanced scientific inspection methods. However, archaeological findings have revealed this two different type has constantly been found together in the same tomb or pagoda. This provides an adequate explorative starting point to a topic of the transformation of the two types of glassware. Therefore, in order to establish a clearer articulation of such and application to the transformation of the two types of glassware, this study is going to elaborate further discussions in the following paragraphers. This study is composed of six chapters. The first chapter is an introduction comprises a brief literature review on reviewing and clarifying the origin of glass in China and the West, the usage of methodology on this study and the definitions of names and materials of glassware. Chapter Two will investigate the quantitative analysis, context and type study in the archaeological finds of glassware during this period. The glassware can primarily be divided into two types: “Self-produced Glassware” and “Imported Glassware ”. Chapter Three will dissect the self-produced glassware of the period deeply on its type and motifs in order to examine the local development of glassware throughout China. Based on the previous two chapters, the fourth chapter traces the origin of expressive form, types of artifacts, and the motifs of the local and imported glassware to conclude how foreign styles impacted Chinese-manufactured glassware throughout the interaction of cultures. Chapter Five pinpoints the historical significance of the Song and Liao glassware. The developmental origin of glassware throughout the Song and Liao Dynasties has been corroborated on the comparison with archaeological findings through historical data, paintings, and the interaction between ceramics and glassware style. All the research results will be summarised in Chapter Six. 盧泰康 2016 學位論文 ; thesis 160 zh-TW
