Seven years into its establishment, the Purple Fairy Group now consists of some thirty female members from places such as Sanchong and Luzhou districts who support elementary schools. Because of Mama Xu’s leadership, volunteer members help one another while each being responsible for their designated tasks. Initially, many storytelling volunteers joined the Purple Fairy Group to improve their ability to tell stories. As they became more and more involved, their continuous contribution became motivated by different reasons. This research has concluded six motives for volunteers to continue their contribution to the group: 1. Passion for contributing; 2. Strong bonding among members; 3. the Sense of accomplishment; 4. the Sense of belonging; 5. Improving social life; and 6. the Leadership. For many volunteers, they began to see the difference between cities and rural areas through the work they do. By facing up challenges that may come to their way, the volunteers also enhanced their self-confidence and developed storytelling skills. A sisterhood like strong bonding grows in the process of telling stories from campus to campus that further expanded their social life. For a long period of time, the Purple Fairy Group supports Er Chong Elementary School in New Taipei City in morning storytelling sessions, special education as well as in the management of students’ play groups. Not only the school is benefited from the services they provide, students ‘self-confidence and skills have also been largely improved. Lastly, based on the research conclusion, suggestions will be made in the following categories: “storytelling volunteering groups”, “schools “and “future study”.
