Description
Summary:碩士 === 文藻外語大學 === 創意藝術產業研究所 === 105 === This study aims to explore the mental process of the author who has been committed to providing long-term care for dementia patients, and to investigate how the process of mixed media creation acts as a self-healing journey whereby the author hopes to find a path out of the predicaments in life. The research questions include the following: 1. For an individual who is devoted to providing long-term care for dementia patients, what is his/her mental process like? 2. How was this mental process translated into mixed media creation? 3. What are the characteristics of mixed media creation based on the art-as-healing approach? The author devoted three years to the art creation, during which time abstract art, abstract expressionism, and surrealism served as the basis of creation. A series of mixed media trials and creation were executed based on the author’s experiences. In this study, the author created works with a focus on the following three periods: 1. The early period of “encounter”: the form of abstract art was adopted in the work for the purpose of demonstrating the author’s experiences in facing psychological distress. 2. The middle period of “conflict”: the author came face-to-face with the impacts of intense psychological distress, and thus the technique of abstract expressionism was mainly used to express the author’s emotional upheaval. 3. The late period of “breakthrough”: through learning the Dharma, the author underwent breakthrough changes in the state of mind while providing long-term care for dementia patients. The technique of surrealism was mainly used to create the work of this period. The feelings of loneliness, helplessness, emotional conflict, and depression, and the sense of being lost are what the author experienced when providing long-term care for dementia patients. The author adopted mixed media to relieve stress and depression. Through reflections and changing the perspectives of seeing things, the author learned how to let go, and realized the true meaning of life, both of which were also what the author had expected to achieve after completing this research. In the future, the author hopes to serve as a long-term care volunteer without getting attached to life's pain.
