Then the elderly population has reached to 2,938,579 persons in 2015, that is over 12.51% of all the population ( refer to the 2016 3rd week report of Department of Statistics). Elderly people should get more attention and care as the elderly population growing. But today, most families are busy studying and working, making having a family reunion so difficult, and family members can’t have good intergenerational relationships. By four steps of IDEA service design, this study explored the intelligent furniture design to satisfy the interactional needs of elderly and their children. First is the Inquire Phase: the researcher used semi-structured interviews, observational method, contextual inquiry and work models to discover the elderly’s daily lives and their needs of improvement in intergenerational relationship. Second is the Design Phase: by affinity diagrams and storyboards, the designer put the value propositions and the design guidelines forward. Third is the Execute Phase: the designer designed and made experience prototypes. Fourth is the Assess Phase: the researcher took the prototypes into the real field to conduct tests on the subjects, and gathered the questionnaires for usability evaluation to obtain the feedbacks. The research goals are below: (1) understanding the elderly’s daily life and their needs of improvement in the intergenerational relationship; (2) proposing suitable intelligent furniture designs; (3) designing and making the prototypes; (4) making elderly people and their children experience the prototypes and give advices for the designer to modify. Through the perspective of service design, the author surveyed the elderly people as well as the intergenerational relationship with their children totally, and formed the innovate products and services for improving the foregoing. Through the steps to test and verify, the author arrived at the research outcome that revealed: (1) this intelligent chair for elders could help the seniors’ children figuring out their parents’ daily schedule; (2) the elders were satisfied due to the feeling of their descendants paying more attention to them during the experience; (3) this chair offered comfort and increased the convenience of clearing stuffs away in the living room. (4) the users gave suggestions for the APP and the intelligent chair, making the successors could develop the research further more. By the duration and the result, this study may be a consultation for people who want to develop the service design for enhancing the interaction between the elderly people and their children.
