| Summary: | 碩士 === 亞太創意技術學院 === 文化創意設計研究所 === 106 === This exposition ‘s main purpose is to elaborate “ how to awake yourself by searching for the spirit of folk art ”. Belonging to one of the pottery techniques, the hand-squeezed puddle skill is the most primitive method of making ceramic works. The artworks made by hand-squeezed puddle skill are the result of creator’s hard work through artist’s real hands and sincere heart. When the human technologies and civilizations come to an end, the world returns to the Ice Age. Human beings will live a primitive life and have to collect food from the nature. The only skill to survive in the nature is to make fire by drilling the woods.
The creator tried to engage in the creation of pottery art by using the skill of hand-squeezed puddle. In the creating process, the creator made a lot of effort, spending a lot of time and energy. In order to create the perfect work, the creator held the attitude of “simple and plain ”to make ceramic works through his hands. At the same time, the creator was inspired by the process of evolution, from the beginning of ideological trend of humanism and industrial revolution to the third industrial revolution related to the Artificial Intelligence nowadays. During the evolution process, human activities resulted in the Greenhouse Effect and Global Warming. The ecological environment is also being seriously damaged. The damages have potential effects on the human beings and other species on the earth. All the human beings have to rethink the issue of protecting our nature and saving our earth. Due to the self-consciousness of the creator, those serious issues motivated the creator to create artworks by hand-squeezed puddle skill.
“ Self-consciousness of folk art “ is the idea kept in creator’s mind during the process of learning ceramic art. By using the hand-squeezed puddle skill, the creator made artworks through ancient woodfiring method. The creator also learned the ceramic skills by producing the traditional cylinder tanks and livelihood products. In the process of creating, Lee preserved the traditional styles and designs. Besides, carving skills were also used to engrave semi-relief flowers, traditional images, or Chinese characters on the puddle. Those decorations on the artwork interact with the audience and provoke people’s attention on the folk art. Also, Lee hopes to return to the nature and arouse a dialogue between the nature and humanity. Through the dialogue, the human beings will reconsider the modern ethics, establishing core values of “ ecology, survival, and life”, finding ways to respect the nature so that the human beings and all species can sustain and develop in the future.
The conclusion of the exposition is that all the creations of ceramics or other hand-made craft or product should meet the core value of “ life, survival, and ecology”. We should learn from the nature, establishing folk art features based on the local culture, keeping on exalting hand-made folk art style, activating and sustaining the folk art assets. That’s just the main idea of this creation.
