碩士 === 中華大學 === 科技管理學系 === 106 === Due to high value placed on tourism in Taiwan, youngsters tend to start off as backpackers and stay at hostels to lower the cost. Numerous hostels provide a single bed and a recreation area in which tourists can stay comfortably with other tourists. Others’ experience of the accommodation can be crucial when choosing a hostel; yet, there has been little research about the subject “hostel.” The purpose of this hermeneutic phenomenological research is to investigate the experience of hostel accommodation of tourists who have stayed in hostels in Taiwan. The current situation of these hostels is also discussed, as well as how they can be improved. Twenty participants were interviewed. The qualitative data were analyzed using template analysis. The results of this study are as follows: (1) were quite satisfied with the overall tidiness, bedsheets, and the décor of the hostels; (2) their emotions were mainly positive, and they could feel the hospitality of the staff at the hostels; (3) most respondents preferred to book their rooms using the Internet and lowering the price can attract them; (4) they had more opportunities to meet people from other countries or areas, which inspired them; and (5) hostels provide books or magazines about tourism that can help visitors from other countries to know more local customs and traditions in Taiwan.
