The participants were police officers working at the police stations of Tainan City Police Department. Methodologically, the study employed a questionnaire survey. The major findings of this study were summarized as follows: 1.Interpersonal Goals: (1)According to the thinking model in interpersonal goals, most police officers tend to hold the ‘compassionate-goal’ type of thinking. (2)Most variables of the police officers’ backgrounds show no significant difference towards the thinking model in interpersonal goals, but ‘the years of service’. 2.Sense of Hope: (1)The sense of hope of the police officers is of medium to high degree. (2)All variables of the police officers’ backgrounds show no significant difference towards the sense of hope. 3. Resilience: (1)Resilience of the police officers is of medium to high degree. (2)All variables of the police officers’ backgrounds show no significant difference towards resilience. 4. The relationship between tendency of interpersonal goals and sense of hope, and the relationship between tendency of interpersonal goals and resilience: (1)The relationship between tendency of interpersonal goals and sense of hope is not significantly different. (2)Police officers that tend to hold the ‘compassionate-goal’ type of thinking have more resilience; police officers that tend to hold the ‘self-image-goal’ type of thinking have less resilience. 5. There were significantly positive correlations between sense of hope and resilience, and sense of hope can effectively predict resilience. Finally, based on the above findings, the current study has given three suggestions to future human-resources policy making in Police Departments: 1.To change the concept, and to give priority to improving resilience of police officers. 2.To pay more attention to those police officers going through their 5th-9th years of service, for they may be struggling. 3.To create a positive organizational atmosphere with a sense of hope.
