Description
Summary:碩士 === 中原大學 === 企業管理研究所 === 106 === The consumption per capita of stainless steel increased gradually with the improvement of living standards. Stainless steel consumption ranks third among all metal materials used and plays an important role in the national economy. The rapid rise of the stainless steel industry in the Mainland China has resulted in a global excess of stainless steel production and a compression in the space for Taiwanese manufacturers. This study will look for counter measures from the raw material, market, product supply and demand, and steelmaking process conditions of the stainless steel industry in Taiwan and Mainland China, as a reference for the stainless steel firm. The W, Y, and F companies all have stainless steel making plant and rolling mill in Taiwan, and all have invested in mainland China to produce stainless steel. They know more about the factors of the rise of Stainless steel industries in China, so this study interviewed the managers of these three companies to understand the possible trend in future and the views of development of company. The results of the interview show that: Stainless steel mills in China reduce the cost by expanding the economic scale and investing the mining and smelting of chromite and lateritic nickel ore to get the profit. They also integrated the production of nickel pig iron into stainless steel making process to reduce processing cost. Chinese stainless steel mills realize their low-cost strategies by these ways and mills in other countries could not imitate these ways due to the environment policy. The cost advantage of Chinese mills will be kept in next few years. The downstream manufacturers in Taiwan still possess competitiveness in the product quality and delivery. The fluctuation of raw material prices led the manufacturer to pay more attention on delivery time. Company W can play a good role in the upstream of the stainless steel industry supply chain in Taiwan by its geographic location and form a competitive supply chain with the downstream. In addition, stainless steel firm still need to reduce costs continuously and move toward high-value products gradually, in order to maintain their competitiveness and sustainable development.
