Therefore, local film production is not easy. However, in recent years, the definition of a local movie has become a national language movie, which has led to the unfair treatment of many movies produced using non-national language. It is obvious when it comes to applying for screenings, subsidies, entertainment tax rebates, or national film festivals. This is a violation of the "1 Malaysia" concept advocated by the government and is very racially discriminatory. This article will discuss the definition of the local film by the Malaysian Film Development Agency (FINAS) in the implementation of the Agency's decrees and policies. It contrasts textual analysis of discourse analysis with the film “Nasi Lemak 2.0,” which is truly localized yet is not recognized as a local film.
