On the athletic stage, every country presented its nation power, combination of force and beauty, and it flocculated the national forces. Only schools and indivisual sports associations promoted sports. Back then, among all the sports, only golf, tennis, bowling and swimming became commercial activities. Billiard rooms, however, were related to gangsters’ gathering places, fitness centers and dancing classrooms scattered somewhere in the cities.
In the 50s, Taiwan proceeded from agricultural age to industrial age, golf (green, oxygen, light, friendship),which features social function and noble sport, became prosperous again. Though fitness industry went through a shut down torment, with the worldwide trend of sports and the celebrity effect, sports atmosphere here went flourish, climbing, jogging, marathon, badminton, cycling, and fitness were also booming.
Sports industry is honored as the star industry of the 21st century, what a let down that the previously well-developed sports items such as bowling , golf, tennis, and swimming seem very weak. Bowling declines badly, the numbers of golfers remain unchanged. Is it true that those sports items turn into the so-called sunset industry?
With my 40-year working experience and the business mode learned, this research will discuss and cross-compare the growth and decline of golf in sports industry. Hopefully it can be thought-provoking and inspiring to golf industry. I expect golf industry can share the prosperity and the honor of the star industry in the 21st century rather than be drowned by the worldwide trend.
