He composed many important works in his life; especially the "thirty-two piano sonatas" was one of the major works. Each sonata has own unique creative motive, style and characteristics. "thirty-two piano sonatas" called the New Testament of the piano works. L.v.Beethoven is one the representative composers in the classical period. The piano sonata Op.53 ‘Waldstein’ is an important work of his mid-term. This sonata has a variety of technique. For the pianist, it is not only a challenging piece, but also a piece that needs to understanding. This work derives from the Earl of Ferdinand von Waldstein(1762-1832) who support the spiritual and economic to Beethoven. Because of him, Beethoven’s development has been smoother in Vienna. To appreciate it all, this sonata was dedicated to the Earl of Ferdinand von Waldstein. This thesis is divided into six chapters. Chapter one is about the motivation and purpose, as well as the research methods and scope. Chapter two is about Beethoven's biography, the development of Sonata and the characteristics of piano sonata Op.53 ‘Waldstein’. Chapter three to five is the music analysis and interpretation of playing. the last chapter is the conclusion. The author hopes reader to understand the background of this period and the characteristic of Beethoven's sonata Op.53 ‘Waldstein’first; then analyzes of the music pattern, playing skills, playing speed and musical terminology, also discuss the points during the terminology, also discuss the points during the performance.
