Description
Summary:碩士 === 輔仁大學 === 宗教學系碩士在職專班 === 106 === Sima Chengzhen, a Taoist priest, studied Taoist medicine and Taoist gospel and applied them to his self-cultivation practice. Sima viewed the human body as a holistic organism He emphasized the flow of energy in one’s body, the connection of five directions to five organs, the ingestion of breath, and the guiding of qi. In this work, Fuqi Jingyi Lun (On the Essence of Ingestion of Breath), he discussed the traditional Chinese medicine theory from Huangdi Neijing and composition of human body from Shangqing Huangting Neijing Jing and Taishang Huangting Waijing Jing. Since the birth of a human, the yuanjing (original essence) and yuanqi (original breath) has been decaying, and thus diseases thrive. In order to prevent the decay of yuangjing, Sima Chengzhen advocated the practice of ingestion of breath. He explained how human bodies ingest the breath and reserve it so that yuangjing can be replenished, body can be strengthened, and longevity can be ensured. This paper discusses Sima Chengzhen’s theory of self-cultivation in Fuqi Jingyi Lun, including the choice of time, space, equipment, and practice. In addition, the paper describes its application and its connection to the body. It is hoped that by explaining this traditional practice of self-cultivation, modern people can have a better understanding and grasp the gist of self-cultivation so as to ensure physical and psychological well-being, family happiness and even harmony of the society.
