Summary: | 碩士 === 崑山科技大學 === 機械工程研究所 === 106 === Today’s incense culture is faced with various internal and external accusations. From the outside, the most urgent issue is the public’s doubts about the environmental protection of incense use, and the ignorance behind the doubts; from the inside, the biggest worry belongs to the incense users’ superficial indulgence in appearance and understanding. In short, as far as the current incense culture is concerned, the primary issue that should be solved is not to establish specific measures such as an inspection standards and legislation, but to squarely deal with the public’s cognitive predicament and get to know the true faces of the incense culture, to use its own connotations and implications, dissipating all kinds of present doubts, especially the doubt about air pollution from using incense. Of all the various textual origins regarding incense cultures, Buddhist canons are the most abundant and crucial source, within which there are numerous methods in using incense, and most of them do not necessarily use fire, which will not raise any misgivings about air pollution and easily gain the internal and external acceptance of incense users. This paper, with classics and literature as its scope, explores the knowledge of incense culture from the perspectives of environmental protection, technology and humanities, and proposes a solution in the form of a cultural approach for the sake of the current incense and pollution issues.
